The Times They Are A-Changin’
MEN'S SUMMER RETREAT
Inspired by the music and poetry of Bob Dylan
Friday, June 21, 2024, 5:00 PM – Sunday, June 23, 2024, 1:00 PM [In‑person]
Osprey Wilds Environmental Learning Center
54165 Audubon Drive, Sandstone, MN 55072
Join us for this year's summer in-person retreat, which coincides with the summer solstice, to renew ourselves and find our voices through writing, reflection, and council circles, illuminated by the wisdom, challenge, and beauty in the music and poetry of Bob Dylan.
The retreat is divided into six parts, each inspired by the words and music of Bob Dylan. We’ll use this material to prompt our own reflections through journaling, poetry, and other creative expression, followed by sharing in small council groups. Sharing creative work is optional but strongly encouraged.
Participants will have ample time to venture out into the new summer landscape of Osprey Wilds Environmental Learning Center. Osprey Wilds is a unique, beautiful, and diverse 780-acre preserve with more than 7 miles of hiking trails and situated on the eastern shore of the pristine Grindstone Lake. Like Dylan wrote in Mr. Tambourine Man, we long to be wandering.
Bob Dylan, one of the best known and loved song writers in the world, has won 10 Grammy Awards, and one Academy Award. His writing has earned him both the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize in Literature. He is the only musician to have won both awards. The Beatles, Elvis Presley, and Pete Seeger were all influenced by Bob Dylan. His writing continues to impact our world today.
RETREAT LEADERS
This retreat is hosted by Illuman of Minnesota. Brian Mueller and Tom Sparough, both from Ohio Illuman, will lead the retreat as content carriers. Tom is also known as the “Space Painter” and is a performance artist and writer who has published seven of his own eclectic books and who does freelance content editing for others on the quest of writing a book. Brian and Tom have created and led writing retreats annually since 2017 and have created a program which combines writing along with council, wandering, and the best fraternal aspects of Illuman.
